As part of an effort to prevent overcrowding in elementary schools in Twin Falls, the Twin Falls School District contracted ESI to complete the full build-out and associated site work of two elementary schools concurrently: Rock Creek Elementary and Pillar Falls Elementary. At the open-house ceremony, School Superintendent Wiley Dobbs spoke of the historic groundbreaking for the city, saying, “I’m most proud that tens of thousands of students will grace the hallways of Rock Creek Elementary School over the next century.”
As the Construction Manager/General Contractor, ESI led the construction effort on Rock Creek Elementary, which now houses 650 students in grades K-5. The facility includes classrooms, a library/media center, gymnasium, student commons, computer labs, a severe needs classroom, and an administrative area. The school also provides play areas and softball and soccer fields.
The early completion of Rock Creek Elementary was due largely to a good plan, a good schedule, and good coordination with the team, including the design team, a responsive owner, and strong subcontractor base. The 10-acre site began transforming almost immediately after the project award as a strong earthwork subcontractor began installing underground utilities and grading at the same time. This efficient execution enabled the concrete work to begin earlier than originally scheduled, which allowed other trades to come on site ahead of schedule.
A key part of the plan was to finish all key exterior work, including paving two parking lots, seeding the open areas, completing all concrete work, and putting walls and roof up before winter arrived. After completing this exterior work by mid-November, ESI crews spent all winter finishing the building’s interior. When spring came, only the finishing touches, such as final landscaping, remained before making plans for the school’s grand opening.
