Kealakehe Waste Water Treatment Plant

ESI partnered with a Class “A” contractor to complete extensive repairs and upgrades for a Waste Water Treatment Plant, for Hawaii County DPW. ESI provided construction management services for the whole of this work, under the umbrella of the Class “A” contractor which issued subcontracts and was listed as the prime contractor.

Project scope for this aeration upgrade and sludge removal project included extensive repairs to existing lagoon liners and new HDPE Liner & Geotextiles for 6 lagoons, new influent & effluent underground piping, replacement of two effluent pump systems, new valves and master controls systems & panels. To keep the facility operational, we constructed a temporary aeration system, which included temporary blowers, generator and aeration provisions. Project included extensive demolition, construction and retrofitting of an existing 1,500 SF blower building, including new CMU Walls, new slab-on-grade, installation of a new monorail & hoist (including structural upgrades), and two new blower assemblies. Site work included new rock parking pads, asphaltic paving, contaminated material storage areas, 1,100 SF+ LF of ductile iron piping. Additional services included measures to deter endangered species from accessing the WWTP area, consisting of biological monitoring & reporting, installation of nesting deterrent apparatus’ for various listed bird species.
